CSA #4, Longbine Ayeroff House

Assembledge+

After losing their home in the Palisades Fire, Marty Longbine and Jeff Ayeroff partnered with Assembledge+ to create a modern rebuild that honors the legacy of the original 1948 Freedman Residence, reinterpreting its ideals through a contemporary lens. Transparency toward the horizon and Pacific Ocean is central to its ethos, dissolving the boundary between indoor and outdoor living to fully embrace the Southern California lifestyle. Organized around a central courtyard, the main house and detached ADU unfold through a series of open, connected spaces that extend seamlessly into the landscape.

Resilience is fundamental to the design, with a hybrid steel and mass timber structure providing both fire resistance and the warmth of exposed wood. Natural materials define a palette of calm and continuity, while deep overhangs and sliding walls invite light and air, embodying a timeless vision of California living rooted in the spirit of the original Case Study Houses.
